Richard Funk Lewis, age 87 passed away June 22, 2019 in Turlock, California. He was born March 8, 1932 in Price, Utah to William Walter Lewis and Carmen Funk Lewis. As a young boy he was able to work as a paper boy and later as a teenager at the local movie theater as the projectionist. He was able to see all the movies when they came to town. He saved his money and was able to purchase two different cars in high school, which he was so proud of. As soon as he graduated from high school he joined the Air Force, where he spent the next ten years and was trained to repair and maintain the secret Nordic boom sight in the air planes and keeping them calibrated before they went on the bombing missions. He spent a year in Korea during the war.
In January 1952 he married Marjorie Arave in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They had five children: Doctor Roger Lewis, Diane, Mark, Linda and Robert Lewis. He loved his family unconditionally, worked hard, honestly, and with dedication to God and those whose who's life he touched.
He had an unquenchable desire for learning. He graduated from Weber State College. As a young man on the compute he taught himself and built many electronic items from the time he was about ten years old. He taught himself how to build and repair all electronic products. He wrote and utilized complex bookkeeping programs for the businesses he owned/operated. He spent ten years in the Air Force, where he received many rewards and recognitions for his abilities and talents that the was so willing to share.
He worked for Sperry Utah in Salt Lake City as a unit manager and also taught electronics classes at Salt Lake Technical College. He also worked as a manager for a satellite operation of Lockheed Aircraft in Los Angles, California, as owner/partner of Medic Tech Corporation in Long Beach, California where he maintained and repaired all of the medical equipment in several of the largest hospitals in the area, at Lewis Electronics in Price, Utah where he repaired and maintained heating and air conditioning units for the coal mines, also repairing home electronic and appliances units; Upon the death of his parents he took over the family jewelry store in Price Utah.
He was very diligent in his church callings being a home teacher, a guide in the Los Angeles visitors center and temple worker, Ward and Stake mission leader, working in the boy scouts, all areas in the Family History library, Ward and Stake Mission leader, Branch President, High Councillor and Bishop. After retiring from the jewelry store he and his wife Marjorie, served 4 service missions; Mexico City, Norfolk Nebraska, Fort Myers, Florida and an online missionary for Family History.
Richard was preceded in death by three children; Linda, Mark Arave, Robert Walter; his parents William Walter Lewis and Carmen Funk Lewis, step-mother Isabel Merkley Lewis; sisters Joanne Lewis Erskin, (Kit) and Fae Lewis Maughan, and brother Don C, Lewis (June). He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Arave Lewis; children, Doctor Roger William Lewis, Diane Lewis; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service with military honors held July 13, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Richmond, Utah cemetery, 350 North 200 East, Richmond, Utah.
