Carvell Patten

June 11, 1952 — December 19, 2021

Carvell Penrod Patten passed away December 19, 2021, in the Utah Valley Medical Center, Provo, Utah. He was surrounded by family and his passing was peaceful. Carvell was born in Payson, Utah, June 11, 1952, the youngest of three sons born to Carl Alva and Vera Penrod Patten of Elberta, Utah.

He attended Goshen School and Payson High School where he participated in sports and other extracurricular activities. In his youth, he played in a band, was active in scouting, earning the Eagle award and later in life was an active scout leader. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to Japan, where he introduced the Teragima family to the church and they have remained close friends. While attending Brigham Young University, he served in an Elder’s quorum presidency. He returned to Elberta after graduation and continued the family business, Elberta Supply Company. He became widely known for the fine gun shop he established.

He married Donna Peterson of West Covina in the Los Angeles CA Temple. They were blessed with two daughters, Canden and Jessica. His love for those two daughters has been strong and constant all of his life even though he was denied contact with them following the divorce. After a season working construction in California he made his home in St George, Utah where he worked construction and later as a mechanic. He married Jeanette Sandstrom in 1996, in the St George Temple. He loved her children as his own.  That marriage also failed after a few years.

Carvell loved music and played piano, guitar and bass and had a beautiful baritone voice.  Carvell loved family and family history and is well known for his pleasant nature and always tried to be fair in his dealings, he made friends everywhere he went. He also enjoyed horses and for a time owned some very fine stock.  He had a little-known talent for literary composition and has written several thoughtful short essays.

Carvell is preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Benton. He is survived by his brother Gaylord and former spouses and children.
