Alice Darlene Peart Nelson, our beloved mother and Nana passed away on October 1, 2026. She was born July 13, 1935, in Eureka, Utah, to Frank and Alice Peart, and grew up alongside her siblings, Ron Peart and Kathryn Christensen.
Darlene went to school in Eureka. She was a proud Tintic Miner, played the drums in the band, and loved to dance. On April 19, 1958, she married Lloyd Lavon Nelson in the Manti Temple, and together they raised three children.
Darlene worked hard her whole life. She worked at Roe's Bakery, IGA, and Happy Service, then spent 17 years at Stouffer's. Retirement didn't keep her home for long. She went back to the bakeries at Stokes and Macey's and kept working until she was 85.
Cooking and baking were her passions. People knew her for her homemade rolls, her Mexican food, and the treat plates she made for every missionary leaving for the field or coming home. Her happy places were her kitchen and anywhere her grandchildren were. She remembered every birthday for family and friends alike. She spent endless hours making every holiday feel magical. She took pride in her home, which was always beautifully decorated, and everyone who walked through her door felt welcome.
Darlene loved serving her Heavenly Father in Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary. She never needed a calling to serve. She simply saw a need and filled it.
She is survived by her children, Rae Ann Warner, Guy (Beth) Nelson, and MaryJane (Todd) Higley; 13 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her parents, Frank and Alice Peart; and her siblings, Ron Peart and Kathryn Christensen.
