“If you are reading this, you’re still alive and I am not. The funny thing about it is, I now know for sure what is on the other side and I can report that all is well here. I was born to William E. Nuttall and Zella May Cloward, September 20, 1926 in my grandfather’s home in Salem, Utah. I have to admit that I was a very cute baby girl! I attended school in Salem, Utah then later moved to Payson, Utah where I graduated from Payson High School.
I married Richard Lant in 1946 and we were blessed with a son, David. We later divorced. On May 8, 1950, I married by high school sweetheart, Richard Greenhalgh. We had four wonderful children: Debra Ann, Richard J., Bradley N. and Kirk Lee. On November 23, 1964 our family was sealed in Manti Temple for time and eternity.” (written by Carol)
Carol Nuttall Greenhalgh passed away peacefully July 24, 2024 in Payson, Utah; once again united with her eternal companion after almost 16 years.
Carol was active in the LDS church and loved the gospel. She served as Relief Society President and Primary President. She especially loved teaching the children. Her greatest joy and love was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved watching them grow and especially, holding all of those new babies.
She loved animals (especially dogs), flowers, gardening, spring and sunsets. She was kind, loving and considerate to all. But at the same time, she could be feisty, opinionated and outspoken, never afraid to let people know where she stood on issues or what she deemed important.
She was part of the greatest generation and as such, possessed all the great traits of those strong and dedicated Americans. She exhibited strong loyalty to her family, her religion and to her country. She would defend her family at all costs and would always stand by them through thick and thin. Without formal education or extensive work experience, she always knew just what to do…and it was inevitably right. She was a great support to her husband in his many enterprises as well as to all of her children. Simply put, she was the best at assisting and helping all in need.
She could light up a room with her effervescent personality; always making guests or even strangers, feel right at home in her presence. Her generosity was a hallmark of her character; always giving of herself, her possessions and her time. She always insisted on paying anyone who provided even the smallest service to herself or her family.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Kenneth Nuttall, sisters, Pauline Borgan and Marian Bird, husband, Richard Greenhalgh (passed away Aug. 3, 2008), son, Rick Greenhalgh (passed away Jan. 5, 2024) and many other family members and close friends. There is definitely a grand reunion for Mom in heaven!
Carol is survived by her children: David Lant (Joyce), Debby Nelson (Jerry), Brad Greenhalgh (Lisa), Kirk Greenhalgh (Stacy), grandchildren: Jon Lant (Marissa), Tiffany Mitchell (Joel), Jeremy Nelson (Angie), Joey Nelson (Hina), Tyson Nelson, Zack Nelson (Chiamie), Chase Nelson (Sarah), Alex Nelson, Lindsey Hinkins (Jake), Blake Greenhalgh (Whitney), Nicole Olmstead (Brandon), Haylie Measles (Austin), Ashlee Haskell (Tyler), Andew Greenhalgh (Ada), Riley Greenhalgh (Megan) and Kase Greenhalgh. Mom currently has 15 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 545 North 200 East in Santaquin, Utah with a viewing and family visitation beginning at 10:00 am, followed by a service at 11:30. Burial will be at the Santaquin Cemetery.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the staff, nurses and all that served and cared for our mother in her final days at Orchard View. In lieu of flowers may we suggest a donation to your favorite charity or simply an act of kindness in her memory.
