Charles Raymond Pyne, age 87 of Orem, Utah, passed away on October 21, 2026, surrounded by his family after a 22-year battle with cancer.
Charlie was born on June 14, 1939, in Orem, Utah, the third and middle child of Orland Eugene Pyne and Melba Catherine Pulsipher.
He lived a life of modest, unpretentious service to his God, his family and his friends, never seeking to draw attention to himself, but always striving to serve those he loved.
He was a proud native of Orem City and loved sharing his family history that took place there and in the surrounding area. Over his lifetime, he hiked his cherished Mount Timpanogos 21 times, including ascending the face several times, even in the winter.
Known for his honesty, loyalty and work ethic, Charlie learned to work and serve from a young age. In his youth, he was employed as a paper boy for the Provo Daily Herald and Salt Lake Tribune that took him all over Orem and Edgemont on foot or on a bicycle. He also worked with his father and older brothers, waking early in the mornings to clean the Orem Seminary building before school and later worked in the evenings and on weekends at the SCERA, where he developed a great love for movies and appreciation for current events watching not only the latest feature films but also the newsreels that regularly preceded them.
He attended public schools in Orem, going to Spencer Elementary, Lincoln Junior High and Lincoln High School before becoming part of the first graduating class of the newly constructed Orem High School in 1957.
After high school, Charlie enlisted in the Utah National Guard, where he served for 10 years, earning the rank of Sergeant First Class while leading a platoon specializing in demolition. He loved serving in the military, but he loved his family even more, so he retired from that service to be more available to help raise his children.
Charlie worked for a pharmacy while attending Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1961. He worked as a CPA in Orem and Provo for over 40 years.
He married the love of his life, Carol ReNay Bates, on June 19, 1964, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They made their home in Orem and welcomed 6 children: Brett (Jan), Jamie (Darcy), Dede (Doug), Necia (Chris), Kennen (Shaundra) and Matia (Jared); 23 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren into their family. He was also very devoted to his parents and siblings: Gary (LaFae), Ivern (Janice), Cathy (Bill), and Don (Karlene). Family was his greatest joy, and he always opened his home and his heart to love and serve them. He helped support many missionaries among his family and friends.
Part of his service to his family included helping build and manage a family lodge in Teton Valley Idaho with his wife Carol’s family. He enjoyed history, hiking and the outdoors, photography, classic cars, movies, music, and BYU sports.
He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of capacities in ward and stake callings, including many years in the role of a clerk.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 30th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the City Center 1st Ward Chapel, 310 North 100 East, Orem, Utah, where family will greet friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at the Orem City Cemetery.
