Evelyn Fay Oakley Durch passed away peacefully October 5, 2017. She lived a long and healthy life. She was 103.
Evelyn was the oldest of 10 children born to Jay Kellogg Oakley and Ruby Clare Whitman of Wisconsin. She worked many jobs during her lifetime and has seen many modern events take place. Her long-term memory was excellent and loved to tell stories. She loved little children and was a foster grandmother in the Salt Lake City public school system for 24 years. She received an award for her service on her 90th birthday.
Evelyn loved being a grandma and a great grandma and would light up when they came to visit her. When she was well she loved the holidays, especially Halloween, when the children would come in their costumes to the care center. She enjoyed visits from friends and family.
She adopted her niece, Teresa, when she was a widow at 55 years old. They moved from Wisconsin to Utah in 1970 and have resided in Utah since that time. She loved crocheting dolls, reading and watching soap operas and, in her younger years, baking.
She is survived by a brother, Rolan Oakely; daughter, Teresa Kay (Scott) Morgan; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; grandchild Elizabeth (Scott) Wheatley - 2 daughters; grandchild Sara (Randon) Angell - 2 sons; grandchild Cassandra (Ben) Longman - daughter; grandchildren Eric Scharmberg, ,Randall Morgan, Remington Morgan, Rifle Morgan, Kayana (Zack) Harman; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather at the Brown Family Mortuary, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin on Monday October 9, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 am followed by a celebration of Evelyn's life. Private graveside services will be held in the Santaquin City Cemetery at a later date.
