Kim Susannah Matheson of Santaquin, Utah, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, June 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at home.
Kim was born on June 14, 1968, in Gwangju, South Korea, to Hyungsoo Kim and Myungrye Lee. At the age of 11, she was adopted by Rolen and Edro Rosecrans of Gold Hill, Oregon, where she spent her teenage years and graduated from Crater High School. She later attended Brigham Young University, where she met the love of her life, Mark Matheson.
Their story began at the infamous Star Palace disco of the 1980s. As Mark often joked, the lighting was dim enough that Kim did not get a very good look at him before he convinced her to go on a date. Before she knew it, he had persuaded her to marry him, and together they began a partnership that would span nearly 38 years. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 19, 1988, and built a life centered on faith, family, laughter, and service.
In the early years of their marriage, Kim and Mark worked together in the Matheson family candy business, Kencraft, Inc./Peppermint Place. Kim used her artistic talents as a decorator. When their children arrived, Kim gladly stepped away from her career to devote herself to being a full-time mother. Later, when her children were older, she returned to work as a manufacturer's sales representative. Much to Mark's amusement, she quickly became his chief competition and proved herself to be an exceptional salesperson in her own right.
Kim was a gifted artist and musician who loved learning throughout her life. She enjoyed playing the piano and clarinet and found joy in creative pursuits. Yet among all her talents, she considered motherhood her greatest calling.
Kim and Mark raised their three beloved children in Alpine, Utah. She devoted countless hours to supporting their interests and dreams, whether on the baseball field, the cheerleading mat, the softball diamond, or the track. She was always present—coaching, encouraging, cheering from the sidelines, and celebrating every accomplishment.
Her greatest pride was her family, her husband, Mark Matheson; her son, Brayden Matheson and his wife, Kelsie; her daughter, BriAnne Bardsley and her husband, Aaron; and her son, Brett Matheson. She was also the cherished grandmother of four beloved grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. She also took great pride in her Korean Heritage and loved her Korean Family very much.
Kim was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a deep love for her Savior, Jesus Christ. Throughout her life she served faithfully in many Church callings, particularly enjoying opportunities to work with Primary children, youth and young single adults. Her faith sustained her through life's challenges, and she faced each trial with courage, grace, and unwavering trust in the Lord.
Those who knew Kim will remember her warmth, humor, generosity, and ability to make others feel loved and welcomed. She never took herself too seriously and delighted in laughter, family gatherings, and creating lasting memories. Her unique journey—from South Korea to Oregon, from BYU student to devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and disciple of Christ—is a testament to resilience, faith, and love.
Kim was preceded in death by her father, Hyungsoo Kim, and her adoptive parents, Rolen and Edro Rosecrans.
She is survived by her mother, Myungrye Lee; her husband, Mark; her children and grandchildren; and many loving family members and friends in Oregon, South Korea, Utah, and throughout the world.
Though her family mourns her passing, they rejoice in the knowledge that families are eternal and look forward to a joyful reunion through the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her legacy of faith, devotion, kindness, and unconditional love will continue to bless generations to come.
