Martha Yvonne Lackman (née Smith), age 69, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, in Timber Lakes, Utah, after a courageous battle with liver cancer.
Born on October 12, 1955, in Monroe, Louisiana, Martha lived a vibrant and deeply meaningful life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, known for her boundless energy, fearless spirit, and loving heart.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Cliff Lackman, and their children: Amy (Sam) Henstra, Dustin (Annie) Lackman, and Christian Lackman. Martha was a proud and loving grandmother to Riley Henstra, Katie Henstra, and Ellie (Colby) Ipson. She is also survived by her siblings: David Smith of Texas, Sam Smith of West Monroe, LA, and Laura (Scott) Olvey of West Monroe, LA.
Martha was an exceptional businesswoman, with a brilliant mind and a creative drive that led her to thrive in real estate, multimedia marketing, and numerous entrepreneurial ventures. She also dedicated many years of service to the American Red Cross, where she worked as a volunteer coordinator and water safety instructor—sharing both her leadership and her love for helping others.
A true lover of nature, Martha found joy in every part of the outdoors. She was most at home camping, hiking, canoeing, rock crawling, and four-wheeling through the wilds of Utah—especially her beloved Moab. Her home was a reflection of her soul: filled with pottery, artwork, and pieces inspired by her deep appreciation for Native American history, wildlife, and the natural world.
Animals were drawn to Martha, and she to them. From riding horses bareback as a carefree girl, to creating safe habitats for birds, deer, moose, and more—she treated all living creatures with reverence. Her connection to the earth was both instinctive and profound.
Martha was also a gifted artist and musician. She filled her home with music, playing piano, mandolin, and even (rumor has it) the drums. She inspired a love of music in her children that lives on in them today. In her youth, she also enjoyed ballet and gymnastics—always moving with grace and joy.
Above all else, Martha’s greatest gift was her heart. She opened her home to many over the years, offering warmth, nourishment, and unconditional love. Whether it was a meal, a listening ear, or simply a place to rest, Martha welcomed others as family.
To honor her legacy, we invite you to live life like Martha did: Go hiking. Watch a sunset. Roll down the windows and blast your favorite song. Hug someone you love. Feed someone who’s hungry. Create something beautiful in her memory.
Funeral services will be held onTuesday, June 17th at 10:30 am at the Genola City Cemetery. A small luncheon will follow at the Genola LDS Church on Main Street.
