Richard L. “Dick” Hamby

In Loving Memory of Richard Latell Hamby (Dick)

Richard L Hamby, of Santaquin Ut, passed away October 16, 2026, at the age of 80. Dick grew up in Cannonville, Utah with his parents Latell Louis Hamby and Vivian (Twitchel)l Hamby. He liked to pretend he was a little bit of an ass, and sometimes he was. He could be rough around the edges, stubborn as they come, and never one to sugarcoat his opinion. But beneath that tough exterior was a man with a big heart

He was unapologetically himself, and those who knew him best understood that behind the rough talk and tough exterior was a whole lot of love.

In 1962, Dick enlisted in the United States Army. He completed basic training at Fort Lewis and was stationed in Germany for four years. After fulfilling his military service, Dick returned to civilian life and began doing what he loved most: building. His passion for woodworking and construction eventually led him to become a general contractor. A career he spent many years pursuing with hard work, dedication, and pride.

On July 9, 1974, Dick welcomed his son, Clint. Then In 1984, he married the love of his life, Coleen Spencer, affectionately known as Ma. Together shared many years of love, laughter, and memories. Some of their happiest times were spent in the mountains, the place Dick loved most, camping, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors.

Dick and Coleen built a family together, including their children Dave, Cory (Wendy), Clint, and Branden (Zuzana). Family meant more to Dick than he may have ever said out loud. He showed his love in his own way, sometimes through a helping hand, sometimes through a few choice words, but always being there when it mattered.

If there was one thing that could soften Dick's rough edges, it was his grandchildren. He loved Cody, Sidney, Charlie, and Max with everything he had. Each of them shared a special bond with him, and each held a unique place in his heart. For all his tough talk and gruff ways, his love for his grandchildren was never in question. They brought him a kind of joy that words could never fully express. Becoming a great-grandfather to Jericho, Clay, and Rowynn brought even more love into his life, and he cherished them deeply.

Dick loved his country, his family, the mountains, and the satisfaction of building something with his own two hands. He was not a perfect man, and he would probably be the first to tell you that. He could be stubborn, sarcastic, and downright difficult at times. But he was also loyal, hardworking, generous in his own way.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Preceded in death by his son’s Clint and Dave. His brothers Lemoyne & Albert and sister LaVonda.

Survived by his Wife Coleen and their canine companion Franky, sisters Charlotte(Mike Butler) and Laraine Johnson, nephew Nick (Tonya), his Children Cory (Wendy) and Branden (Zuzana). His Grandkids Cody (Tessa), Sidney (Jessica), Charlie, & Max. His Great-Grandkids Jericho, Clay & Rowynn.
