Wayne Calvin Fletcher

Wayne Calvin Fletcher was born December 18, 1938 in Tucson, Arizona to Herbert Calvin Fletcher and Madeline Evans.  He passed away December 27, 2022 in Gunnison, Utah.

Wayne’s childhood was spent in multiple places in the United States as his father’s work took them to new adventures on a regular basis. From those travels he fell in love with the beautiful North West and settled there in Washington with the love of his life, Lynette, for more than 20 years just after they were married.

He loved to garden in his extensive yard and enjoyed his many grow boxes surrounded by the majestic pines. He was always improving their piece of heaven by building, remodeling and creating things for their home. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t build or do.  He loved to experiment in the kitchen and knew how to create a masterpiece with various spices much to his wife’s delight. He also didn’t shy away from cleaning up the kitchen when the day was done. He loved a good road trip and enjoyed delivering his Amsoil products across the beautiful scenery of Washington and Oregon in his trusty 2005 Dodge Caravan (still ticking) with his side of soda.  He loved the road so much he even spent some time driving a long-haul truck.

He had an extensive knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ and learned early on that the gospel was true.  It started when a special teacher gave him a Book of Mormon in primary. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Argentina. In his younger years he spent some time working as a smoke jumper and also graduated from Brigham Young University. Wayne loved to read and had an incredible interest in history and foreign countries. He was able to retain and recall facts on an amazing level and could remember facts about anywhere in the world. He had a large library of wonderful books that he treasured and referred to often.

Wayne and Lynette were married December 30th 1988 in Washington DC and spent 34 happy years together. In Lynette’s words ‘he had the patience of Job and was always trying to please me-he did a great job’.

Wayne is survived by his brother Paul (Kaylyn) Fletcher, his deceased brother’s wife Mary and family, his loving wife Lynette, four daughters from his first marriage; Michelle (Orson Troy) Badger, Dianna Le Fletcher, Sara Anne Fletcher and Nichole (Timothy) Davis.  He is also survived by Lynette’s children; Richard (Diane) Payne, Laura (Steve) Thompson, Clayton (Cori) Payne, Kevin (Danyelle) Payne and Seth (Cate) Payne as well as 33 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
