Debra Nelson

February 3, 1965 — June 7, 2022

Debra Kay Peay Nelson, “Debbie-Momma Deb” age 57 of Goshen and Santaquin, UT received her angel wings and returned to heaven on June 7th, 2022 surrounded by her family in Tooele, UT.

Debbie was born to Donald and Doris Peay on February 3rd, 1965 in Provo, UT. Debbie had a love for the outdoors and for animals especially horses at a very young age. She shared this love with her Daddy and forever cherished the memories they made together.

She attended her early school years in Springville, Utah and attended high school at Provo High School.  She was active in Horse 4-H, rodeo, and FFA.

Debbie married David Atwood on February 5th, 1983. Together the two shared a love for music and just living life to the fullest while growing up together. While with David, they received two of her biggest blessings and joy, a daughter Kamalee and a son Weston. The two later divorced.

Debbie later married Dean Nelson on March 20th, 1993. The two of them went on many adventures horseback riding and hunting in the mountains and deserts and rode motorcycles to many locations with friends and family.  The two also made many memories remodeling the home of their dreams in Goshen, Utah. They later divorced.

Throughout these years Debbie was active in many different activities, gun club, riding club and she also dedicated some of her time as an EMT for Santaquin City. She loved helping people and she loved her social life. She made many lifelong friends, when she smiled or laughed it was contagious. Her energy always lit up a room and boy could she SING!

Debbie married Gordon Thomas in the fall of 2001, during this time she found a love for gardening and enjoyed going on many travels with him to Colorado for work and events such as rodeo and cowboy poetry. This time was short lived, and they eventually divorced.

She made her way to Castle Dale, Utah and shared a home with her sister Teresa and her daughter Kamalee. Here she loved cooking for her brother Brad’s café and continued to make more and more friends. She eventually received her 3rd greatest blessing another daughter Baylee. Baylee brought a new light to our mom; she was her little miracle full of sass and kept her busy and brought us all together as a family.

Over the years her journey led her to Salt Lake City, Utah. She suffered many trials and yet continued to make so many friends. Debbie was loved by all who knew her. Her health took a turn due to a heart condition and in October 2021, she was placed under Hospice care. During these last months she was reunited with her family. Her last weeks were filled with so much love, emotion and animation. She was surrounded by her family and friends ever day, creating new memories with us and her grandkids. Her face lit up with every new visitor and phone call she received. We are very grateful we were able to be there to support and show our love.

Debbie is survived by daughter Kamalee (Brandon) Paul of Levan, UT, son Weston (Poppy) Atwood of Santaquin, UT and daughter Baylee Adam. Grandkids Haily, Chance, Dakotah, Sky, Brodee, Ryler and Kizzy.  Her brother Brad Peay of Nephi, UT, sister Teresa (Lloyd) Petersen Lemley of Salt Lake, UT, brother Casey (Emily) Peay of Palmyra, UT and brother Jeff (Angie) Haskell of Lehi, UT.

Debra is preceded in death by her father Donald Peay, mother Doris Peay, sister Valerie Norton, aunts, uncles, 2 nieces and a 1 nephew.

The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to her care team with Elevation Hospice, “Wendy Lady, we love you! You were her ANGEL.” Also, want to thank Rocky Mountain -Willow Creek Care Facility. The staff here was amazing. The nurses and aids definitely made her feel welcome and made her a part of the family. They brought light to a very heavy circumstance.

There will be a Celebration of Life held in her honor on July 9th at the Santaquin City Park located at 300 West 100 South Santaquin, Utah 84655.  We welcome family and friends to please join us in sharing memories, laughs, and lunch. Celebration will be held from 12 pm – 5 pm.
