Obituary

Lifetime resident of Genola, Elwin R Ewell, 59, loving husband, father, and grandfather ended his struggle with ALS on Father’s Day (6/19/2022).

Elwin was born at Payson Hospital on June 18, 1963, to Earnest and Violet Ewell. He was the youngest of eight children. He loved spending time with his father and siblings, hunting, fishing, camping, and riding horses. Elwin loved to ride his horse Zeb around the town and hills of Genola, which can be seen in multiple paintings by Helen Davis. He was a member of Dudes & Dolls Riding Club and the White Lake Riding Club. He enjoyed spending time with his Uncle Alvin and family bringing in cows and branding them in the Hanksville area and the Henry Mountains. Elwin also enjoyed survival trips to the Escalante & Boulder areas.

In the spring of 1982, Elwin met the love of his life, Cheri Ruffell, they married on June 3, 1983, in Goshen, UT. “She is the best thing that happened to me.” On May 2, 1991, they made their family eternal in the Manti Temple.

Elwin loved spending time with his grandkids and would get a huge smile when they would ask to do chores with him which would often involve getting to ride the horse. He also enjoyed taking them fishing and sharing his love of the outdoors.

Elwin served multiple callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His favorites included spending time with the youth in the Scouts and Primary.

He is survived by his wife Cheri, their children; Sarah (Ben) Erickson, Bradley, Jacob (Tatianna Martinez), Earnest (Nicole Shepherd), and Amanda. Grandchildren; Cheri & Violet Erickson, Braxton Martinez, and Cordelia Carter. Siblings; ErnaDean Bennett, Martin (Tessie) Ewell, Rodger (Carol) Ewell, Ervil (Peggy) Ewell, Collette (Murdin) Clements and Victor (Karen) Ewell.
