Lavina Throckmorton

January 1, 1943 — July 2, 2020

Lavina Throckmorton passed away peacefully from this life on Thursday 2-July-2020 at 11:50 AM.  She was surrounded by her daughters.  In a perfect sendoff they sang songs as she passed through the veil to what was for sure a glorious reunion in heaven.

Lavina was born on New Years day in 1943.  She was the youngest of 7 children to Sydney Daniel Throckmorton and Verda Alice Ewell and the only one that was born in a hospital.  She grew up in Genola on the family farm where she learned all the necessities of life from her parents and siblings.  She spent summers in the Strawberry area where the family would summer their cattle.  At a young age she was riding horses and enjoying the beauty of that area. She continued that love later in life and we would find out she was driving around the state exploring.  Strawberry area was her favorite, but she also would go to Hanksville area where her Father grew up. She also loved Santaquin canyon and Yellowstone Park.  In her travels she always found someone she knew or knew of.  But she always created friendships during these encounters.

Lavina married Ralph James Mecham on 1-Sept-1956.  On their wedding day he pushed her in a wheelbarrow through the Payson Onion Days celebration.  They lived in Provo and Genola and were blessed with 7 children.  They were later divorced.

Her life was consumed with the raising and loving of her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.  There was always an “I Love You” at the end of each visit and usually it was repeated 5-6 times.  There was no such thing as a short visit with mom.

Lavina also had many close friends that were dear to her and had great memories of those friendships.

Lavina did many jobs to support her family.  She worked in Genola with the farmers, sometimes selling Cherries/Peaches at the cherry stand, she also drove truck to deliver crops to the mill for processing, She also did sales at JC Penney’s in Orem.   Her children loved going to the mall while waiting for her shift to be over.  In 1977 she moved to Byron WY and was a bus driver and custodian for the school district.  In 1983 she moved back to Utah and worked at Ferrals Market in Santaquin and at Natures Sunshine. At Natures Sunshine she started in the vitamin room and eventually moved to customer service.  She enjoyed her years at Natures Sunshine and eventually retired from there.  As always with all her jobs she created friendships that she cherished.  She took pride in her work and with every job she was successful.

During the past few years as her body began to fail her mind was clear and she had daily phone calls with her children and others who would call.  Mom cherished the regular calls the she had with her sister Twila.  The love and respect that they have for each other is admirable.  During this time, it was a blessing to Mom that Tamara was able to live with her to help her with daily tasks.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Throughout her life she fulfilled many-many callings, but her favorite was teaching the young women.  We have heard from some of them and their experiences with her is in their fondest memories.  She was very respectful of other people’s viewpoints and opinions but never wavered in her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Lavina is survived by her sister Twila Hales, Her children, Julie (Billy) Styles, Wendy (David) Harmon, Sandra (Chuck) Watts, Christine (Tony) Muniz, Tamara (Mario) Ortega.  She has 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. She also has a 2nd adopted family that have helped her many times throughout the years that she truly loves.  Thanks Jon, Jen, Bonnie and Brandon
